Considering how many bus companies fought over us with their claims of "we are the only company with a direct bus", "that company over there are complete liars", "don't listen to him, he is a cheat" and so on at Selcuk bus station, to discover that in the end everyone ends up on the same clapped out poor impersonation of a Ford Transit was rather disconcerting. It was actually colder outside when we stopped for a tea break and not a hint of lemon cologne, free tea etc anywhere. However, the highlight has to be that the bus driver did not actually know the way.
Pamukkale is perhaps unique, having amazing calcium travertines that appear almost like the largest baked Alaska you have ever seen and the ruins of Hierapolis add to the mystical charm of the area. It is a genuinely breathtaking sight to see.
But perhaps Pamukkale shall be remembered for lessons learned such as don't take on the locals at Backgammon when the stake is who's buying the next round of drinks....
