Where I stayed
I had deliberately decided not to shave for a couple of days so that I could have the "works" and in our sleepy sea-side hangout of Kiyikoy we found a barbers shop. Upon entering they insisted that Tania must sit down and join us for this spectacle and we were both greeted with much joy and tea.
Some sign language later, we established what I wanted doing and we begun with Turkey's answer to Nicky Clarke giving me the most thorough and detailed hair-cut I have ever known
Then it was cut-throat blade time. On with the foam and I barely felt a thing. Then, he did it all over again. This was followed by hot oil post-shave treatment.
Next was a head massage involving cooling scalp oils.
Now it was time for a trim of the eyebrows followed by nose and ear shaves whilst rather passionately explaining to me that Beskitas is the only football team in Turkey, all others are shall we say inferior, especially Galatasary... Who am I to argue.
Then he put the TV onto international footy round-up show so that I can watch latest goals from the UK etc whilst I am shampooed, conditioned, receive temple massage, have ears cleaned and finally get caked in moisturiser.
One hour later, job done, five quid! I salute this marvellous nation!!!
PS - On the Caversham Road in Reading there is a new barber shop called the Istanbul Barber Shop, strapline, "You will Feel Like a Star!" As Nathan is closest, we think he should check it out and report back.
