Today was our last day in Paris before we head home. It has been a fantastic month here on our honeymoon and we have seen and done so much more than we could have hoped for when we planned this trip. What started as Matt's dream 6 years ago, to one day honeymoon in Paris, has turned into the trip of a lifetime for us both. It has been great to spend so much time together doing what we love and travelling together as Team Wells.
As our flight didn't leave until 7pm we had most of the day to wander the streets of Paris and say our goodbyes to the city that we have both come to love. We decided to go back to our favourite picnic spot in Place de Vosges, where we had eaten lunch on our very first day over a month ago. It was incredible to see how different it looked, with the trees thin with brown leaves, compared to the full green leafy trees of a month ago. Autumn had really arrived in Paris while we had been away. We ate our last baguettes with ham and cheese and sat soaking up the atmosphere of this great city.
We wandered slowly back to our hotel through The Marais district and were amazed to keep stumbling onto cool pedestrianised streets filled with cafes and markets that we had never even known were there. Not far from our hotel on Rue St Denis, we rounded the corner to find 2 triumphal arches in the middle of the street. On a smaller scale than the Arc de Triumph, they were still an impressive sight. Matt was amazed that he had never known they were there despite the many tours of this city he had led over the years. Sadly for us though, it just served to strengthen our desire to come back here again in the future. Just when you think you have seen everything a city has to offer, suddenly you find more things to add to the list. We always knew it wouldn't be long before we were back again, but these types of things just go to confirm that even more.
