OK. The departure date draws ever closer - but ever so slowy. I can't wait for Friday!
We actually fly out on Saturday, but Friday is a day off work which is always a bonus.
Thought I'd put a wee blurb about the trip here as I've realised internet access might not be possible whilst I'm away. I'm keeping a full written journal of our adventures in China, and fully plan to take shedloads of photos, which I will use to create a full travel blog here at some point.
In the meantime, here's the plan...
Sat 27th Oct - Leave Edinburgh for Beijing, via Amsterdam.
A four hour wait between flights in an airport described by some as excellent, but by me as a bit boring. Last time we were there we couldn't get to the observation area to watch aeroplanes come and go in order to while away the hours. Instead, we wandered around a bit, then sat down for a bit. Boredom set in quite quickly...
Sun 28th Oct - Arrive Beijing.
We are being met by a Chinese friend who is going to see that we get to our hotel OK. Later on, we are apparently going to visit her family and have a nice, traditional, home-cooked Chinese dinner. I am looking forward to this a lot.
Mon 29th Oct to Thurs 1st Nov - Beijing.
Trying to include as much as possible in four days that will doubtless be too short (it is a holiday afterall!). This should include a trip to the Great Wall - hopefully an area not infested with fat American tourists...
Thurs 1st/Fri 2nd Nov - (overnight train) - Beijing to Shanghai.
This could be fun!
Fri 2nd to Weds 7th Nov - Shanghai.
More running around like hooligans, cramming things in and making the most out of our short stay here. Planning a visit to another city nearby.
Weds 7th Nov - (flight) - Shanghai to Hong Kong.
Says it all really...
Thurs 8th to Sun 11th - Hong Kong.
Planned exploration of some of the outlying areas that we didn't visit last time, including the giant Buddha and a trip up to the New Territories.
Sun 11th/Mon 12th - Hong Kong to Edinburgh, via Amsterdam.
Thankfully, a shorter stop at Schipol this time...
