Our plan for today was to head to Patong Beach - roasting on sunbeds whilst munching on concertos and chilling out in the cool, clear waters . Getting to Patong beach involved a series of dead ends and wrong turns, trying to find the right bus stop and giving in to an overly priced, short tuk-tuk ride through the center of the island.

Once in the Patong resort, our first port of call was food.  After checking out all the Irish bars, we settled on a quaint Dutch run bar that filled us up with toasted ham and cheese (Bob had pineapple too) sandwiches accompanied with the usual coke and a fantastic view of hundreds of tourists crammed onto a strip of golden sun, para sailing and jet skis keeping the swimmers penned to the shoreline and a massive cruise liner obscuring the horizon.  Anyone would think we were in Spain?!

We joined all the other tourists on the beach and immediately found ourselves sunbeds with an umbrella (once again rather extortionately priced) to protect us from the scorching sun. Whilst Bob settled in to a thirty minute roasting, both front and back, Weeble walked along the beach and straight over to the jet ski's. 30 minutes had passed and all Bob managed to see was a couple of glimpses of Weeble flying past and almost falling off.  Weeble used the jet ski to explore a Tri Trang beach just along from Patong beach. The secluded beach was nestled amongst the cliffs at the far side of Patong beach.  The quiet little cove had gorgeous Golden sand with fantastic turquoise water lapping its shore.
It sounds great doesn't it?! so whilst Weeble is making the most of solitude in Paradise, Bob has been mobbed by a bunch of school kids and once again, filling out their work books whilst answering the same old questions - "Do you like Thai food?", "Can you speak Thai?" etc..

The water at Patong beach was not crystal clear due the the waves created by all the power boats, churning up the sand.  However, the cool temperature was a welcome relief from the ever increasing heat from the mid day sun.  We didn't bother with the market of fake tat and the transvestites parading on the promenade.  We just spent the remainder of daylight curled up under the umbrella, eating ice cream and occasionally venturing out for a dip.

The last bus home finished at 4pm so by the time we even located the bus stop it was late enough for us to be forced in to submission by the tuk-tuk drivers (after asking several tuk-tuk drivers all along the promenade) and pay twice the amount we paid to get to the beach in the first place.  We made the effort to dine in the Italian restaurant recommended in the Lonely Planet book - it turns out to be really expensive but very tasty.  Before strolling back to the hotel.
