The high speed train from Zhengzhou took as little as 6 hours. It was luxury we were not used to after our last train experience. We had obtained first class seats that had plenty of leg room, air conditioning and free bottles of water, not to mention the western style toilet (with loo paper!!).
Stepping out of the train station was just like walking into a futuristic New York! Neon signs every where advertising various products including the usual McDonald's and KFC. People were obeying the traffic laws!!!! There were also people at the train ticket counters who actually spoke good English.
The most fascinating thing though was the fact that a lot of the roads and walkways were above ground - just like in the Jetsons (but not floating of course). The metro and the subway were both in pristine condition. They had TV's showing adverts but more importantly football, dotted about both the platforms and inside the trains.
Our Hostel was easy to find and the room was far better than previous rooms we had stayed in. All in all it suddenly dawned on us that we had finally reached civilization as we new it!
