June 6 - Stopped and got groceries and a 2 for 1 Alaska coupon book. Drove through Anchorage today and went south about 25 miles to Bird Point CG. Set up campsite and went for a drive to Girdwood. Got back and realized we didn't have much dog food so drove back into Anchorage for that. This campground is along the Cook Inlet off of the Gulf of Alaska. We arrived as the tides were going down and water was even lower when we came back from the pet food run. This area, when the tides are low, has what is called mud flats. It covers quite a bit of this inlet and is like quick sand or concrete. People who are stupid enough to walk on them have gotten caught and can't get out and drown when the high tides come back in. We got to see a moose and her calf along the road, but didn't get a picture. Sure was a cute little one.
June 7 - Took a short side trip this morning going to Whittier, but it was so windy and rainy we decided to do that after going to the coast for a few days. There were bald eagles all over the mud flats eating today as we were leaving. We arrived in Seward and got a campsite right on the waterfront (along with everyone else) in a gravel lot. It would be even better if the weather wasn't rainy, windy, and cold. But the weather forecast (if they are right) is supposed to warm up and quit raining by tomorrow. I hope they are right because we plan to take a day cruise. June 8 - Here we go again another Glacier. They all seem to be a little different. This one we walked about 1 ½ miles round trip. This park also had signs put up showing where the glacier had been in previous years. It was interesting to see how much the glacier had melted over time. We did see a black bear cub not too far away playing around on some of the boulders but Momma called her back into the woods before we could get close enough for a picture. We did manage to have someone take our picture together. From there we went back and checked on Sadie. Then it was off to pay for our boat tour we are taking tomorrow and to the Sealife Center. This was an indoor aquarium which had a huge sea lion, seals and puffins and all the fish you can imagine. They also had tanks set up so you could touch some of the starfish, anemones, etc. It was a good place to stop. Eva - just like an ocean zoo. You would have loved it?!
