Everyone woke up weary: the rigging had been banging in the wind all night despite several attempts by more than one of us to quiet it. It turned out to be the main halyard, which is partly inside the mast and thus unreachable. All we could do was tighten it which, like tuning a guitar string, only really changed the rate of the banging.

The other three went for some island sightseeing but I felt more like trying to get some items checked off of my To Do list, which never seems to get to the end. So I looked for the corrosion in the port light, checked the bilge, and filled out my voter's ballot and mailed it back to California.

Then I tested the regulator for the wind generator. As the wind had come up strong today the fins were spinning madly without much load and I had to go out with the boat hook and snag the tail fin to pull the machine sideways to the breeze and finally, when it slowed down, catch it and hobble it with a bungee cord.

The fellows returned late afternoon with photos of the ancient broken castle on the cliffs at the wild ocean side of the island. They had photos of them opening mussels on the beach with a pocket knife. It was a missed opportunity for me, but also a rare chance for a bit of solitude, which I am starting to treasure.

Our second tuna met the grill tonight. Already the flesh was mushier, though still delicious. With the wind and a bit of drizzle outside we dined cozy in the cabin, and it would be the first really solid good sleep in days.

Here is the first photo from today.
