Entry 32 of 47 | show all | print this entry

We set off for Hanover, NH and the big reunion late morning. It was sad to leave Pat [and Boz her wonderful labrador] who has been so loving and accepting of us. We have so loved the time in NH and Bill has had the time with Pat to remember many things from their past. It was raining overnight and we set off in misty rain that only got worse ... H found out how to operate the dis-mister/AC as the windscreen kept fogging up. It was very hard driving in the grey misty/wet weather and we were glad when the turn off for Hanover appeared on the highway. So much of what B had remembered of Hanover and D College had changed with one way streets and new buildings. Somehow we made it to the registration desk and gained keys to our room - a twin dorm which was basic but comfortable. Trying to find somewhere to park the car was the next challenge! We drove around for ages till we found a place and hoped that later we could move the car closer.
Bill caught up with his old dorm mates and 100+ others. The campus is wonderful and so different from RMIT! There is so much space/greenery and students walk with ease to dorms, buildings etc. The campus seems to go on forever.
Dinner was a Texas BBQ in the covered athletic centre and then we were invited to the house of the Dartmouth President and his wife, whom we had both met on one of his infrequent trips to Hong Kong. We joined the line for the formal intro to the President and his wife + others, then gained entry to the house which was superb and the gardens were divine. The rain had stopped by then but the air was heavy with moisture and it added to the atmosphere. A music band played in the garden house and people were able to roam all round the house and gardens. It was a very special night and we met up with so many of B's old friends. The President's House is right next door to Bill's old fraternity house (not remotely as well kept up as the Prexy House) which dredged up many memories. Finally, we headed back to the dorm for bed and another day of new adventures ...
