After a great sleep we were up early and ready for the visit to President Bush's house! Following our instructions we made it to the main gates and waited with hordes of other people. Whilst waiting a helicopter came overhead and security people swarmed ... so we figured the President had to be somewhere close. Sadly we didn't get to say 'hello' to GW but enjoyed our tour of his house and the fabulous gardens. H loves peony roses and there were huge vases full of them throughout the house.
We then arranged to meet Chris for a quick lunch between visits to the National Archives where H tried to do some research on Bill's father. By luck she met a very helpful lady who lived in Magnolia (Bill's childhhod area) so she has our email and will do some checking. The Archives is a fabulous place and I wanted to spend more time there ... but we needed to be back at the hotel to meet Bill's step niece who was driving to meet us.
The rest of the afternoon was spent with Leigh and Jake (her son). B was overjoyed to see them both and keen to catch up on lots of news. This has been the special part of our trip - time with special people in both our lives and we treasure the memories they have given us. We had a delicious Italian meal before they headed back. Our last day in DC has been a happy one and the weather has been great but the TV is predicting storms. Hopefully it won't cause us problems as we fly to NY in the morning.
