After a wonderful nights sleep we awoke refreshed and enjoyed a delicious Irish breakfast cooked by our hosts. Abbey House is delightful and the house has a huge dining room for breakfast and a comfortable lounge with open fire for meeting and watching TV. In addition to the main house, they have self contained cottages which would be wonderful to stay in for longer periods.
After b'fast we headed off to discover Boyle town, Kings House (a restored mansion), the local lakes area and walked miles but met so many friendly locals. After lunch we headed to Strokestown to see Strokestown House and Famine Museum. We loved the garden but sadly the house needed a lot doing to it and the place was generally badly managed ... The stories of the famine were so sad. However the chance to drive along small Irish roads and enjoy the scenery was wonderful. We had some rain on the way home ... The hire care has controls the opposite to my car ... so the wipers and indicator get confused at times!
People have been so friendly. Even strangers say 'hello' and ask how you are ... Bill says I look like al ocal with my white skin and red hair ...! It's only when I open my mouth they realise something is different. We had another delicious meal at a place suggested and are so glad to have another night here. My genes tell me there is Irish in the blood.
