I had a wonderful visit with Gail, my M-i-L. We went and had that lucious hamburger, and went back to her house for ice cream. Two great treats.
I got underway at 0745 to Clovis. I was hoping for a continuation of the cool weather I had on my trip to San Angelo. What luck, it was in the 70's and 80's for the entire 320 mile trek. Not the typical West Texas summer temps. The trip went smooth, some wind and the sky was filled with dust - nothing strange here. Heading west from Lubbock, I was reminded of all of the feed lots in this area. Very aromatic. Tons of wind generators from Big Spring to Muleshoe.
I arrived in Clovis at 140h0 [for the officers who can't understand real time], and it just turned 90 as I turned the Excursion off. Fuel here was 4.71 a gallon. Wow am I going to have to get used to these prices. Before I left San Antonio I had not used the Ex for a month. Prices are up 1.20 since I had last filled up. Oh well. Clovis' claim to fame is an AFB, and a train stop. Dirt, scrub sized trees and brown grass. I can stay anywhere for a night, even in a corn field in Illinois/Missouri area.
Glad I didn't opt to go up to Amarillo before turning west. They are having tornados right now. Just a yellow dust filled sky here. Another early day tomorrow heading to Gallup, NM. I'll get to use the big blue hwy for about 275 miles of the trip, so it should go just as smoothly. I hope the weather is just as nice. No photo-ops here so no pics.
Anxious to get to Flagstaff for a 4 day layover in the cool mountain air.

Telling Time
Uh, Tom - it's 1400 hrs - or 2 pm for the rest of the world - you did write 140h0 - is that cryptic 'Goat Locker' speak! :-)
sounds like a great trip. Mom surely enjoyed the visit.
Safe travels!
Dan
PS - it's raining here 'on the beach' - we've got nearly 30 people here with more to come today!
