Where I stayed
We arrived late afternoon to our three bedroomed apartment on the Wycliffe campus. The area is called Lake Hart which is about 30 km SE of Orlando's centre. The apartment was awesome. We walked up the stairs (we were on the 1st floor - what they would call the 2nd floor) to find a comfy couch and two lazy-boys in the lounge, central aircon/heating, dishwasher, tumble dryer and washing machine - all very important when you only have three sets of clothes to wear....Linda and I immediately took up position in the lazy-boys...
The apartment is one of about 20-30 similar ones in blocks of 8 with large open fields on the one side and trees in the distance. One thing about Florida - it is flat, flat flat.
The next day (22nd) was thanks giving - a family time which is celebrated across the USA. It is bigger than Christmas....As we had just arrived, we spent the day catching our breath, sleeping and buying food.
The day after thanks giving is called Black Friday and is a public holiday in Florida. This day marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. A holiday to go shopping???? SA has some obscure holidays, but I don't recall one to go shopping.....
Having seen a lot (and I mean a lot) of hype on the specials offered for black friday (see I can't even capitalise the name) and the frenzy to get these, I was curious. Walmart offers its specials from early evening the night before (they stay open 24/7 for this) so around 6pm Kerrin and I headed for the local Walmart.
The store was not particularly full of shoppers yet - those that were there were camping next to their chosen waiting for designated special opening time. On every isle there were at least 2 security staff making sure people did not get out of hand...We left without buying anything.
