The hotel was very helpful in providing us with extra towels to clean the car, so armed with shampoo and hot water in a dustbin - 'n reisiger maak a plan.... we headed to the car.
Now the clothes....the hotel like all hotels here has a coin operated laundromat. Only this one had a coin jammed in the only washer....Receptionist to the rescue. She called in a favour with the local gas (read petrol) station called Loves and asked if we could use their personal machine. The proviso, we had to get there before they closed. Grabbing the clothes, children and washing powder, we jumped in the newly cleaned car and drove around the block to the garage (we later found that there was a driveway between the garage and the hotel, so it would have been quicker to walk)
The people were very friendly and helpful, their washing machine was not...is was only useful for wetting the clothes. Linda landed up hand washing everything again before putting them in the dryers at the hotel.
Attached to Loves, was a Hardees (more fast food) which we decided was probably a wise move which would allow us to eat while we waited for the machine to finish not washing the clothes. The fast food places all come with bottomless sodas. You can have a small (+/-500ml cup), regular (+/- 750ml) or a large (definitely more than 1ltr). Now given that its bottomless, why would I pay more for the larger ones - go figure...
The food at Hardees was actually not bad - not good, but not bad - certainly better than anything at Wendy's or Taco Bell.
Toilet seats....a Montenegrin friend of ours who emigrated to the US many years ago told us that when he first arrived, he thought all the toilets in the US were blocked as the bowls were so full of water, you almost got wet sitting down..... We discovered another nuance to toilets here. The toilet seat. The northern states seem to favour the incomplete toilet seat - its U shape missing the 10 cm piece in front - very disturbing. This plus a full bowl of water equals lots of insecurity!!!
The South move more to the conventional seat, but obviously suffer from the insecurity mentioned above, so made the seats and bowls much smaller - surprising seeing as they are having to make airline seats wider here to fit the general populace....
