Anyway, all jokes aside, the fair was fun! Britta and I rode on the high swing, drank locally-brewed Altbier, ate pretzels, roasted almonds and pickles. My favorite food we ate was the "half meter bratwurst", which if anyone's counting has a good 7 inches on the American foot long hot dog.
Yesterday we went to the Rhineland-Westphalia State Fair which, lucky for us, takes place yearly in Britta's home town of Dusseldorf. Now the only state fair I've ever been to was the Florida State Fair, so that is what I kept comparing everything to. Overall, I think they were pretty similar - both have scary rides, gobs of yummy uber-fattening foods to eat, and a disproportionally large number of rednecks. I am not meaning to offend anyone - anyone who has lived in Florida knows it's true that redneck types are attracted to Florida fairs like flies on fresh you know what. I was more surprised actually that the same occurred in Germany, and in fact, that Germany had any rednecks at all! But it is true, they do!
