The start of the next adventure! Having panicked about packing (but not actually done anything about it) I was up at the crack of dawn on the day of the flight and had packed by 7.30am! That gave me the rest of the day to worry about what I had packed and whether I had missed anything. Set off with Mum and Dad to Heathrow to meet Hilary (travelling with) and Bethan (a good friend coming to see us off). Quick coffee with everyone at the airport before Mum and Dad headed off to France. I think my brother thinks we were deserting him as we were all leaving the country on the same day! It was a late ish flight, so managed to watch a few movies, sleep a bit and not disturb our surrounding passengers too much. Quite an achievement (and I'm sure they were grateful!).
Arrived late afternoon to a hot and sticky Singapore - blissful warmth. Hilary and I have both been to Singapore before but had totally different experiences. It was cool to compare notes and start to just hang out. Took a walk out to the Botanic Gardens on our first day, walking from the hostel in Little India. Walked around the evolution garden which takes you from Earths early botanic beginnings to the current day. The Reflexology path looked good, and I'm sure was good for your feet, but it was a bit painful! So, we found ourselves a quiet spot in the shade to read, relax (ie snooze) and chat. Coffee (well, peppermint tea) on Orchard Road on our way back to chill out.
Found a swimming pool for a swim the following morning (Saturday I think!), picked up some last minute supplies for the Borneo trip and then had a mooch down to the river and Boat Quay for lunch before heading to Quidam, the latest show from Cirque de Soleil. Somehow we managed to get the best seats in the house for half price and it was worth every penny. The show was stunning. A very simple set which allowed the performers to really shine. The acrobatics, artistry and comedy were all superb and took us on quite an emotional journey - laughing til our socks fell off! A great experience. Off to see the largest (and quite possibly ugliest) fountain in the world next, or so they claim. I think Vegas would have something to say about that! Hmm, good job the pretzels tasted good.
Home to the hostel to get ready for our trip to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (Borneo). The adventure really begins.
