Cathy and I caught a mini bus up to Bangkok and it took about two and a half hours with no problems. We had booked a little hotel just a few streets away from the famous Khoa San road. Khoa San road is an area that has for years been the hang out of travelers. Why? I don't know. But it was a great place for a wander and to chill out with a beer or two. I realise I write the words wander and chill out quite a lot but when traveling for a long period of time you naturally find yourself just wandering and chilling out, and if you know me at all you will probebly be nodding your head right now thinking that's what Warren does best. Now Khoa San road is a bussy place, great for souviners like T-shirts with Thai local beer brands on them. I liked them and got a Chang beer and a Singha beer just to add to my growing collection of T-shirts !!
We had a couple of beers and a walk up the river bank and went back to the hotel
The next morning we went to the river and hired a long tailed boat to take us up the river and around Bangkok's canals. The boat ride was lovely and Kev was telling us how nice it was to be out in shorts and a vest two days after freezing his Bristols off in the UK. After the boat ride we headed to the Grand Palace to be told we could not go in with shorts until after 1 P.M. !!?? We jumped in a Tuk Tuk and found ourselves being taken from one Emporium after another. I must have had my guard down as normally I will never get in a Tuk Tuk before I have told the driver that if he takes me to an Emporium I won't pay him. Anyway it was quite funny all marching in to these places and within a couple of minutes marching back out empty handed. I need to explain that Tuk Tuk drivers get a comission from the Emporiums for taking unsuspecting tourists to them.
The next day we went to another part of the city I forget the name of. Bangkok is a colossal size and it seems to have cities within the city if you know what I mean? Anyway we found of all things a Pool hall come bar. So we went in and had a game or two. I thrashed Kev in good order I am pleased to say....... What a great game pool is!! Shortly after we went 10 pin bowling and I was beaten by Cathy and Kev but I don't want to talk about that right now. It's a crap game anyway!!!!! It was getting late so we decided to head to Pat Pong and catch a show if you know what I mean. We had a few beers in a bar then saw a show. We only stayed 30 Minutes and that is more than enough I can tell you. But when in Rome and all that. You haven't been to Bangkok if you haven't played Ping Pong in Pat Pong.
All three of us had a great time in Bangkok. It is a wonderful exotic place and the people are warm and friendly. After the 3rd night we headed back down to Hua Hin to stay a week at a pool villa. I will not be doing a blog about that week as I have already done one and I am so far behind on my blogs because for 2 weeks I had no internet access. I am already worried about Jan and Feb as I will be in Sri Lanka and Burma those months and if I found getting access in Thailand hard it will be even worse there.
