Where I stayed
So we got to KK two hours late. We got on the airport shuttle to town, then jumped on another bus to our hotel way across town. Our hotel is actually attached to 1Borneo the biggest shopping mall in East Borneo. So the rest of the day was spent wandering around the mall and getting stuffed in Pizza Hut. The next day we got the free shuttle into KK and took in the sights. KK is the capital of Sabah and is on the coast. It has a lovely promenade with markets on it. We stopped at a Filipino BBQ fish stall. Cathy picked a fish and I picked Sting ray, we both also picked Prawns. Wow what a feast, we were both happy with our selections. On Tioman I had Barracuda and Cathy had Sting ray, I had tried hers then and liked it so from now on if Sting ray is on the Menu I'm there.
While we were in town that day we found the Jetty and bought our boat tickets for Brunei. We got back to our hotel dead tired that night. It was then that we decided to splash out on a hotel with a swimming pool for our stay in Brunei. The next day we got up late and did not stray far. I suppose all the recent traveling had caught up with us. We needed the day off and it was welcomed.
As promised in the last blog I'll say something on Headhunters. Headhunting had been a practice in Borneo forever until quite recently. A pleasant little pass time. Example : A young buck wants to woo his bride to be. So he goes out into the jungle and finds a village, murders a villager and cuts their head off and smokes it. Then he gives it to his bride to be who is over the moon with such a lovely gift. Oh and by the way she will be even happier if it is a woman's or a child's head!!!.........................Naught as queer as folk.
