Cleopatra Island to Dock Yard Island / Fourth Day Aboard Yacht

This is the point on the tour where all the coves and bays and ruins and Turkish place names are running together and beginning to be indistinguishable, so you'll have to forgive me if I don't provide precise locations for all our activities today. And an active day it is!

We start out with swimming and snorkeling after breakfast. Then we move the yacht to a nice cove (Sarsal, according to the captain), where quite a few of us take a walk along the shore and then enjoy drinks at a beach restaurant. Returning to the yacht, a couple of us try jumping off the bowsprit into the ocean. It is about 20 feet above the level of the sea-high enough to give an adrenaline rush!.

The cook has his first disaster, serving for lunch some beautiful green peppers stuffed with uncooked, inedible crunchy rice. Next comes parasailing, and four of us go aloft to enjoy the tranquil experience of floating over the gorgeous blue water surrounded by amazing mountains and islands in all directions.

A ride on one of those inflated "banana boat" comes next. The experience consists of six people straddling an inflated "banana" and being dragged behind a speedboat. Quite hysterical until the driver decides to do a sharp turn and flip the banana over. We have a couple of non-swimmers who panic, but are rescued by the crewmembers {who had joined us at our invitation).

By this time we have relocated the yacht to yet another picture-perfect cove (Bedri Rahmi), and now it is time to do a hike to see some Lycean tombs. The path is non-existent and treacherous, but several of us make it all the way up to these incredible holes carved into rock walls that are completely vertical. At one point on the descent I hit a patch of loose pebbles and slide quite a few feet down a steep embankment. I'm proud of myself for staying on my feet. It was almost like dry skiing!

We anchor for the evening at Dock Yard Island's Summer Harbor. I gather the awards committee for our first meeting before dinner, and we get quite a few knocked out in a hurry. Dinner is skewers with beef, couscous, grilled mushrooms stuffed with cheese, fried cauliflower and salad. Fresh fruit for desert. We linger over the table, and at one point ask that all the lights be turned off so that we can enjoy the stars. All the while classic Turkish love songs are surrounding us from the music system. A truly delightful ending to another perfect day!
