The time passes quickly, and before we know it the hour has come to walk into Fira for our final meal together. It is a sumptuous, late lunch, and as much as I love this Greek food I am happy that we arrive in Athens too late tonight to go out to dinner together.
After lunch I decide to go for a coffee at Franco's Bar, a beautiful spot playing classical music and overlooking the city and water
. This will always remain one of my favorite moments on this island – beautiful music and a stunning view. I was sitting by myself having a double espresso with milk, and just as I began to think it would be nice to have someone to share the experience with, the waiter seats a young gay couple from England next to me. We start chatting, and before I know it 45 minutes have passed and it is time for me to get back to the hotel and catch our bus to the airport. Delightful!
Our 8:05pm flight is delayed by about an hour, which means that I reach our hotel at about 10:30pm. My wake-up call is set for just a few hours from now, and at 4am I’ll be on my way to the airport to begin winging my way home. I pop up to our hotel’s roof for one more opportunity to soak in the beauty of the Parthenon illuminated at night, grateful for another fantastic tour accomplished.
Today is a day to do as we like on Santorini. Our originally scheduled wine tasting got thumbs down from everyone, so the day is free until we depart this evening. I sleep late, and then have breakfast with several of the guys. Our check out time is 11:30am, so I pack and shower, then move up to the lobby with my luggage. Some of the group are insatiable card players, and they are already there engaged in a spirited game called Pitch. I finish my blog entry from yesterday, then try my hand at it. Later I teach them how to play Estimation, one of my favorite games.
