11.30AM
Went to Hippy Market in Ipanema where there was so many amazing art available!! Got 2 nice pieces after a bit of haggling with two deaf brazilian artists. It was great, language wasn´t a barrier at all. They should look nice in our house.... when we finally decide where thats going to be. After twisting Michelles arm (not that hard to do) were going to the Maracana Stadium for the closing ceremony of the Pan American Games. Then its packing up before heading to Buzios in the morning. 10.00PM Back from Maracana. Well worth staying the extra day for the closing ceremony . Stadium was about 3/4 full, but the atmosphere was something else. Loads of different dance acts took part from Brazilian Samba to Native Indian dances. Colours were amazing.
At the end of the ceremony, there was a huge fireworks display that lasted about 20 minutes. The stadium was actually shaking from the amount of fireworks that they used. We think we kind of overdressed for the occassion though. The hiking boots, waterproofs and wooly hats were out because it was so cold and wintery, yet the locals were happy out still going around in their shorts and t-shirts! Bags are packed for Buzios and washed clothes are actually dry!! More thumbnails ...
