Our current city is Kota Kinabalu the capital city of the Malaysian state Sabah on the third largest island in the world, Borneo.
"KK" is cramped in between the bio-diverse rainforests of Borneo and the South China Sea.
We have been enjoying our first few days here by doing what we do best...EATING!
KK has an enormous night market with friendly and feisty vendors who hack and hawk their fish and meat then gladly pose for Jon's eager camera.
The seafood here is the freshest we've ever had in Asia...and the cheapest!  Two crabs and two huge shrimp grilled and smothered in sambal for under 6 bucks? SOLD.

We even found something at the market called "Roti Jon"! We couldn't believe it...we had to try it.  This mayonnaise covered chicken, cucumber, and onion on a hot dog bun was de-lish!

We are also realizing that Sabah is a bit more liberal concerning their Muslim religion than those in Western Malaysia.  It is much more common to see young girls sans head covering, dressed in tight jeans and short sleeves linked arm in arm with her boyfriend.
We talked to one local girl about this and she was super cool and helpful.  She said that while she is Muslim, she doesn't want to be a liar, and wearing the head covering would make her that.  She mentioned to us that some girls who wear the head covering have love bites on their neck...
She is not ready to be such a religious person...although when we asked if she was fasting for Ramadan, her answer was, "Of course!"
We also met these two Christian Chinese women while they were buying Durian.  Gertrude and Daisy insisted on taking us for a ride in their car to go see the fancy "Beach Resort" then taking us to the Kota Kinabalu Yacht Club for a lime juice drink and some line dancing.  Again, we travel to a new place and are greeted with some of the friendliest people on Earth.
