After our trip to Granville and after moving all of our stuff out of Brooklyn, it was time to take a trip down south.  We wanted to visit Jon's dad in Charleston and Jon's best friend Mia in Myrtle Beach.  So we planned for Jon's sister Mandi and her boyfriend Joe to come hang out down south for a week.
But first we had to make a small detour...We decided to make the 6 hour drive from Myrtle Beach airport to Atlanta for the soul reason of going to the Georgia Aquarium, which if you have ever talked to Jon before he has probably mentioned that it is the best aquarium ever!  And why not right?  Three of us are unemployed and one is on her 3-week vacation.

Before actually hitting the aquarium the following day we had to check into our amazing hotel.  Jon knew about this place from his days at RockCorps and when we checked in they gave us a free upgrade to a 2-bedroom suite on the 18th floor.

We got bundled up for the freezing, windy weather outside (-10 degrees) and headed to Daddy D'z for some good southern BBQ, then to a few bars to reunite with some past-time friends of Jons.  Of course we had to finish the night off at the Clermont Lounge, the infamous retired stripper's joint, where of course Mandi and I befriended 2 strippers.

Our motivation to see fishies woke us up the next morning. The aquarium was super-awesome (although the Beluga whales were on vacation) the highlights definitely being the huge octopus, the 4 whale sharks (the same kind we'll be snorkeling with in the Philippines), and the alien puppies (that's what I call the small rays that like to be pet).  We took a behind the scenes tour because it turns out we are all big dorks for that kinda stuff.  We saw the tanks from above, the veterinary offices, where they grow their own coral, the filtration system, and we got to see the whale sharks being fed.

Our guide was kind of a lame-o know it all who wouldn't really listen to our questions and treated us like we were little kids (it is slightly possible we deserved it).  All in all a very fulfilling short time in Atlanta.
 Now it's off to Charleston....
