Yesterday, we toured Auschwitz and Birkenau.  It was, of course, as one would imagine, sobering. It was Auschwitz that I had prepared my heart for to be the worse, but it was Birkenau that took me by surprise.  I was overcome with the massiveness of the place.  It was almost too real to be real!  How could this have happened?  There was only one goal for Birkenau, and that was extinguishment!  Our tour guide was excellent.  She was a history student here in Poland. I especially enjoyed the extras that she gave to us.  She also educated us on the phychological effects/ and she made the tour very real and personal, as well as including the historical events.

From there, we had a driver take us to Prague.  This was a 5 hr drive in the Fiat.  Our driver was very pleasant and helped us understand the culture, and talked about his family and life as we asked.  He even sang a line of "Sweet Home Alabama" to us.  That was fun.  We had that happen to us several times.  It's such an Patriotic Song!  HA!
Our driver was determined to get us to Prague, and I am not sure if his wife wanted him home for dinner, but he was definitely on a mission!  As he would want to pass another car on the interstate, he would call out..."Hurry up Fiat"!  That cracked me up.
I had plenty of good laughs yesterday.  Jonathan, not so much.  He had eaten something in his last meal in Krakow that just didn't agree with him.  I have been trying to get him to like cabbage for 10 years now, as just as he was starting to like it at home, he gets sick on RED (EVIL) CABBAGE!!! I don't think I can get him to eat cabbage again.  EVER!   He was practically green most of the day.  I then medicated him with some anti-nausea medicine which rendered him practically useless the rest of the day.  He was sick enough to ask the driver to pull over so he could get out and .... well, that's enough on that.
Maybe that is why Mike, the driver kept saying, "Hurry up Fiat!"

It is now Friday morning here, and we have just had a lovely breakfast.  It honestly been the best here so far.  The Poles are just not into breakfast. (And that's just a shame.)  But, I have now had my latte for the day along with a croissant/ cheese, and ham.  Ready to take on the sights of Prague.  Despite Jonathan's ailments, we were able to walk around last night and see the town glowing.
Well, it's off now to see the town in the day.
Will add more later.
