Another big day with a two hour trip to the coast to the old port of La Rochelle. Drove through the Cognac region with every second village ending in ac. It was a very nice, big old city. Lots of shops, cafes and boats. And of course old castle type things. Walked around the city, had a coffee, not good, at a fancy café & had a baguette sitting in the sun for lunch. Left there & went up the coast for 20 klm's to the beach of Chatelaillon. To say the kids were disappointed in the beach was an understatement. Tide was out and water was around 150 metres away. This left mainly mud between the sand and the water. Travis tried to walk it but kept getting stuck. Not what they expected. Drove back to gitte with Leo & Lennie and had a quite drink with the owners, Mike & Linda, and some other guests. Leo had arranged to go to dinner at a local café, which was also a truck stop. Did not know what to expect. Got there and it looked like a truck stop, even the owner would run out to help park the trucks. Basic looking but what a surprise. We started with a Pinot, then wine was placed on the table, and a pot of  soup & bread. You could help yourself to as much as you wanted. That done it was salads, again as much as you wanted. Main meal was mashed potatoes & beef borg stuff, and as much as you like. If you ran out they would bring you more. Cheese & dessert was the same. All this for around 15 euros. Best value plus best tasting meal on the trip so far.  Home by 9:30 and an early night. Off to Leo's tomorrow to help cut wood & relax. Should mention the weather, it has been sunny and around 27 degrees since leaving Paris.
