Early morning rush to get Gerhard and Jennie to the main station (Frankfurt) and Walter and me to the airport at 10. Gerhard (nr 2) is catching a train from the airport. Like a horrormovie we see the queue for drop off of luggage getting longer and longer! At least a few hundred metres! Luckily Walter mentions to the Lufthansa lady that our flight is leaving in 1 hour. We are allowed to drop off the luggage at the business class counter. My suitcase is suddenly weighs 27.5 kg (what do you expect with all the books and hand creme tubes)! We take out the wooden bowl from Australia plus a few heavy items and stick them into hand luggage bag. We make it just in time!

Fritz Faass - Walter's cousin, picks us up at Hamburg airport and drives us to our apartment (Clipper Elbe lodge) at Fischmarkt. Modern apartment - very spacious - in an old building (exterior)! Fantastic location. We make coffee with the coffe machine and enjoy the complimemtary Stollen - while waiting for Gerhard and Jennie to arrive (they rented a car in Frankfurt). Fritz drives us to the station where we buy flowers and pralinen for the uncle and aunt.

Before our 4 pm appointment with his parents, Fritz drives the four of us through Hamburg on a guided tour. Then on to the old age home where Onkel Walter and Tante Marianne live. They look splendid! We also meet Bettina, Olaf and Nicki! All 11 of us are going for dinner at a lovlely restaurant at the Elbe. Goose and red cabbage (my favourite). Plums and ice cream for desert - lovlely red whine! Fritz drops us off at our apartments - we decide to go for a beer at the pub opposite to our apartments! We meet a friendly young couple and chat over beer. At the end of the evening we are best friends!

We are enjoying our holiday - eat way too much! Hamburg has a lovely harbour atmosphere - we would like to come again - perhaps when the new opera house is complete!
