After breakfast with our usual group (Jody, Jean and Reggie from US and. Elmarie and Bruce from NZ) - get stamp for last remaining Christmas card at main desk. Bus to Rothenburg leaves at 8:30. Our tour guide Valery is English - has been living in Germany for 20 Years.
Arrive at 10:15 in Rothenburg - very, very cold. Love the old town. Middle ages - cobble stones. Clock - on the hour tells the story of General Tillly during 30 year war (in 1631) - wanted to burn the town to the ground
Discover a hat shop - a few of us ladies can't resist. Just love a red filt hat with flower on the side. Ears are now warm. Coffee and Apfelstrudel with Jody, Jean and Reggie, Elmarie and Bruce in old Cafe where the stewardess wears dirndl.
KAete Wohlfahrt Christmas shop - just too much. Like condensed milk - only tiny amount tastes good. Sometimes MORE is just too much! But I did find a lovely nativity scene made from porcelain.
Find stall where a young man does wood carving himself. Buy a few tree decorations from him.
Lunch with Jody, Reggie and Jean at hotel. Lovely tomato soup and Gluehwein. Walk back to bus at 2:15 pm. Scnapps anyone? Happy hour on the bus. In this cold - one sip is good for warming up! Burns all the way down to your stomach!
Tonight is the captain's farewell dinner on ship. We leave or floating (sadly not sailing) ship tomorrow to drive by bus via Milthenberg and Wertheim to Frankfurt.
