Where I stayed
Got our coffee and pastry and sat on the back porch. The lake is shrouded in haze this morning and is almost glassy smooth. A few boats pass slowly by, and two fisherman circle slowly just past our wooden pier. Squirrels play on our giant tree, and an occasional slow jogger goes past. Our landlady's yard is filled with golden daylillies and bright purple coneflowers. A large family of ducks picks its way through the marshy edge of the lake, looking for breakfast. It's so pretty and peaceful.
We begin to meet our housemates. Sandy from NYC, who's been coming here for 30 years, and a nice family from Akron with two college aged kids. The girl is a student at Transylvania, back in
Our first impression of Chautauqua is that this is a cross between going to a summer camp and spending a week on a college campus.
