We ended up at some temple on the coast called Murdeshwara (spelling?)
. It was pretty cool and looked quite new - we're thinking built not that long ago. There was also a huge, kick-arse Shiva (I think) kind of dude with too many arms and the classic crossed legs pose. I have no idea what any of this means, but crikey it was big! Got a bit of grub there and headed back the way we came, which as it turns out, is the way to Jog Falls. In case it's not already obvious, we've got no idea where we're going and aren't really too fussed.
We found the correct turn-off and were finally headed in the right direction. It didn't take long before we both realised we wouldn't make it before dark, so it was time for plan b... pitch the tent. We found a market and grabbed some random veggies, stocked up on water and sorted out a litre of fuel for Ads' burner (stove). Then it was time to get properly lost in the wilderness, so we just took random turnoff after random turnoff and ended up in the middle of nowhere, a jungle-style setting. There's a perfect full moon out now to help with the light aswell. Pitched the tents, infalted the self-inflating mattresses, had a cook-up, now time to turn in. A random day in India, fingers crossed for no Malaria!
A good day today courtesy of some good riding, a couple of sights and the debut Indian tent pitching. We left Kumta around 11 headed for Jog Falls, but again weren't too fussed if we ended up somewhere else. As it turns out it was the latter! The first hurdle was that I fell asleep early the night before and had left the washing soaking - it kinda defeats the purpose washing at all if you've just got to stick it all in a bag soaking wet. So I devised a cunning plan... attach it all to the outside of my bags to get some air flowing. I won't bore people with the gory details, but it'll suffice to say that when your socks, jocks and t-shirts are flapping about in the wind behind you, you get a couple of looks. Anyway it somehow worked, and I also managed to hang on to all my sexy brown jocks - bonus.
