Entry 11 of 12 | show all | print this entry

Top of the Morning to you all.  Today is my last day in Mullingar as I once again am hitting the raod this time back to Dublin to spend the night before I fly out to JFK tomorrow.  These last couple of days have been wonderful.  The night before last Robert and Mary McNamara picked me up and took me to dinner at the Tyrellspass Castle (the very same one my cousin, Nuala had taken me to for lunch) - appartently it is a popular place and I enjoyed it once again.  The following morning I walked the town of Mullingar again and took some more pictures.  At half past 2, my cousin Robert picked me up and drove me 30 miles north to Longford town where my great grandfather and family would have traded and shopped.  I looked around for a couple of hours before Robert picked me up and took me on a driving tour of the area including the town where my grandfather and family lived.  It was called Ardagh and it was beautiful.  We also went to the cemetary where family members are buried.  We then went to visit Seamus Kenny, his wife Chrissy and their 7 year old daughter, Orla who live on the Kenny family farm.  We had a joyful time sitting around (with tea and sandwiches) and trying to figure out who was who and how we were related.  We were also joined my Seamus sister, Mary who is Robert's cousin and therefore would be my cousin too.  They dug a bit of soil up for me to bring back as well as a potato -- I will bury deep in my dirty underwear so as to not have it confiscated -- Kevin don't call anybody and give them a heads up about the American coming back with dirt and a potato.  Following the visit at the farm we went to Robert and Mary's house (it is a beautiful home built int he last 10 years) for you guessed it, tea and sandwiches.  Mary's mother lives with them as well.  All in all, it was a full day full of family and stories.  This might be my last post until I get home unless the hotel in Dublin has internet.  Thanks all for reading my adventures and travelling with me to Ireland.  I'll post pictures when I get home.  K
