Entry 15 of 40 | show all | print this entry

Hello!

Quick entry from Amsterdam! We are doing well, but our hostel is FAR away from the centre of town. About a 45 minute walk to get to anywhere. It is, however, a VERY nice place, very modern, very clean, and the beds are extremely comfortable. Also, the other guys in our room (though we have yet to talk to them - they seem to have very bizarre sleeping schedules) are very quiet and not smelly, a refreshing break after our last few places.

So far, we have seen most of Amsterdam. Yes, this means we saw the Red Light District and everything it entails, and yes, we have seen many many coffee shops. But it also means we saw the Amsterdam Historical Museum, which was very nicely put together, as well as the Anne Frank house and the famous annex where the Franks lived. That was also very well put together and a very powerful place to visit.

Also, we've gone to a pub or two. We are planning on heading out again tonight!

Another fact about Europe, in fact our biggest pet peeve for the last five weeks: People on the street seem to have one thought in their head: me me me. This includes cars, bicyclists and other pedestrians. Nobody watches where they're going, nobody courteously gets out of the way, everyone pushes their way to where they need to go without considering others. Everyone's general sentiment is: "I need to get where I'm going, I matter the most, I deserve to go first, I.. I.. I.." Anyhow, we've long gotten over our bitterness about it, but it can be very annoying, especially in places like museums, where nobody considers that others may be looking at the same display as them, and on public transport and trains, where people literally push past you to stand in front of you to be the first out the door.

Hope everyone is good at home! GO VOTE on Tuesday!!! We jumped through so many hoops to be able to vote, and in the end we still aren't able to, so YOU BETTER DO IT!

Adios!

Wayne
