Quick note from Paris:
We got a hostel no problem (well, the receptionist was an airhead, but otherwise...) and we are here for four nights. I already don't like it compared to Germany... Very dirty and stuffy and inconsiderate people... I'll be happy to head to Brussels on Friday!
Tomorrow, we are taking a free walking tour around many of Paris' tourist sites. Also, we will meet up with Alex's sister. Wednesday, we are taking the RER trains to Versailles and Chartres, beautiful nearby palaces. Thursday, we are heading up to the D-Day beaches in Normandy.

From your description, France hasn't changed from the 1980s--that's how I remember it--dirty and rude people--Mom
