    Howdy everyone!

Right now, I am sitting in a dark hostel pub, which happens to have a laptop sitting on the bar! It's in our hostel, Sudpfanne, which is actually really dank and sketchy. We had initially tried to get a room at the local Pension (guesthouse) but they were all booked up, and this was the only other hostel within the Altstadt. It's not the end of the world, there are some really nice people staying here. The bathroom situation is very bizarre, there are two bathrooms which are kind of like house bathrooms (one room with a toilet, sink, bathtub, etc.) and then three shower stall outside, so it's verz difficult to get any shower time. Also, the showers aren't reliable in the domain of hot water-giving, so... yeah... all in all, kind of a weird place.

However, Heidelberg is literally breathtaking!! It is such a classic old-style German town, lots of VERY narrow streets (though the cars rip down them like nothing) lots of beautiful facades, lots of nice open plazas with cafes and shops. We decided to cut our Frankfurt visit short by a day, and arrived her yesterday morning, and we're so glad we did, it's so much more refreshing here than in the big city.

Yesterday, after we finally got into our hostel, we spent much of the day just walking around. The Altstadt is gorgeous, like I mentionned, and we also walked along the river (The Neckar River) which was beautiful as well. Last night, we met two other guests in our hostel room, Chris and Stephanie from San Francisco, and we went out on a pub-crawl with them, which was alot of fun. We were also accompanied by Geoff, a 62-year-old British farmer, who was also a party. All-in-all, it's been wonderful in Heidelberg so far.

Today, we are going to see the huge ruin of the Heidelberger Schloß (Heidelberg castle) and also walking along the Philosophenweg, along the steep hill on the north side of the river. Tomorrow, we are heading out to Stuttgart for one day, then on to Freiburg and Lahr!

I hope everyone is doing great in Canada! How is school??? Hahahaha!

Take care!

From Francine
Hey Wayne,

Thanks for the update. I hope you're taking a lot of pictures of the beautiful town. And it's good to hear that you're meeting and spending time with other travelers. Interesting characters and dingy hostels make for the best stories (and memories)!

Love you!
Francine

ps- Uggh, school will be intense this year...
