Florence Nightingale

Yo well here I am in the high city of art & culture. Imagine it - a troglodyte philistine like me in a refined and urbane city like Firenze (Italian name). Yesterday I even paid good money to go on a tour of the Academia Gallery which has the most signifigant Michaelangelo (MG) collection of sculptures, incl the famous David. He was some man alright that MG - to carve such a piece out of a block of marble. Apparently he did it all off the image in his own mind - no models or unlike other sculptors a plaster model first. Straight off the bat ol MG. They say David is anatomically perfect in every detail. Well leaving aside the fact that I see anatomical perfection everytime I look in the mirror (Ha Ha! - all these gelattos and pizzas arent helping my midriff), MG even got the veins on the back of Davids hands and managed to convey the image of movement with the musculature of the ribs and shoulders. There were lots of other good stuff there too. Also did a lot of walking. Saw the massive Duomo and the famous Ponte Vechho bridge with its little gold souk thing going on there. Ill leave later on today and go to Lucca from where its only 20km to Pisa where I hope to topple over that bleeding tower once and for all. My plan is to drive TIPO up at a full head of steam and lash into the ol tower there and watch it fall to oblivion, then ride off into the sunset, with my middle finger extended out the window and a hearty chuckle. What do u think? Seriously im enjoying Italy and have come to the following 3 conclusions 1) the Italian countryside is a thing of beauty Practically every bend of the rd opens up a new jaw dropping vista. I especially like how every little town seems to blend in with the countryside; its the right size, height, colour and shape - all designed to accentuate the scene not jar from it. 2) the Italian woman is a thing of beauty Firstly, can the feminists out there please forgive me that little bit of objectification? In four days of la dolce vita Ive seen more beautiful women than in 7 weeks in Turkey. Must be something to all that pizza and spaghetti..... 3) TIPO is a thing of beauty. HA HA! In the home of Ferrari, there are many, many fancy cars around all zooming around but I wouldnt trade TIPO for any of them. VIVA LA TIPO!!!

Hi Rob
And to think Grannia and I missed the opportuntity to ride in her (assume tipo's a her - think of beauty and all that)cos you sprained your ankle.
As to things of beauty, guess I don't need to worry about John in Turkey then. Although Italy's next on the list for Phil and John's travels. Their following you, you know.
