Yo - well first off I should acknowledge the irony of my title from a person who has all the singing talent of a cat being throttled. Ýndeed as a wee anklebiter in primary class when singing was on the sylabuss, the teacher would make a special pt. of excusing me from joining in with the rest of the class and give me some crayoning and colouring to do.
However, when Germanys best known musician is Nýna of 99 Left Balloons fame and its most popular recording artist is the Hoffmeister hýmself - David Baywatch Hasselhoff - then I think its fair to say that the ol Krauts arent exactly Top of The Pops! And this was borne out in real life recently with two of my recent visits to ancient theatres.
Now when ur at an ancient theatre its only natural to go down the bottom and mime a panto or something theatrically similair for the benefit of your mates, but at Termessos this frauline took it a step further and sang out loud for a constant 10minutes. And it wasnt even a song - it was just the one line repeated ad nauseaum - "Im in Heaven". Well she may have been but I certainly wasnt. Think of the worst Imam uve ever heard on a minaret and ull begin to get the idea....Enuff said.
And as if to prove that Teutonic warbling at ancient theatres was not a 1 off - at Patara theatre this evening there was another Frauline at it as if to prove that this is some sort of German symptom. Thankfully she had at least a variety of notes to abuse but she was only marginally more melodic than her Termessos compatriot. However both of them were probably better than me which isnt saying much really though....
Anyhow today was a busy day. After a leisurely bfast I went mad for the ol ancient sites and within 6hours vistited a spate of them in the locale around Kalkan and Fetihye. First up was the exotically named Xanthos. Wouldnt that be a great name for a kid? Imagine the kickings hed get at school? "Oi Xanthos come here a minute ......" Perhaps only the name Xavier would generate more abuse than that? Then it was onto Letoon and after that Patara beach and then the Patara ruins themselves before coming back to KKan for din dins. Now its an early night and an early start cos Ive got the blue cruise tommorow - so no more updates till Fri - inshallah.
