Hey. Well today Id signed up for a tour of Cappadocia - time to let someone else do the driving - so another day off for TİPO. Anyway after bfast of Turkish pancake - gozuleme - we went off on the tour. All told there were about 10 of us.
First there was a panoramic viewpoint stop where there it was snowing - honestly Im sick of snow now and just cant see what snow enthusiasts rave about - its cold wet and miserable - give me the sun any f****** day of the week. It must be a compensatory mechanism.
Then we went to Denriku - which has an ancient underground city. There are 8 levels open to the public. The interconnecting tunnels were small and cramped - Im 5ft 9 and was struggling at times so I can only imagine how the 6ft 8 Canadian on our tour was managing!
I know the ancient ınhabitants went there for escape and protection but ı just couldnt see the attraction in underground living, interesting and all as it was for a visit.
Then we went to the Ilhara Valley for a 3km walk through a lovely gorge by a gargling stream - the weather had cleared by now - or at least stopped snowing and raining - so the walk was v pleasant. But the best part was the delicous lunch at the riverside restaurant - İ had lentil soup followed by salad then some succulent trout and rice topped off with some orange slices. Lovely jublee.
Then we visited another panoramic viewpoint before visiting a rock hewn monastery - Selime - not as dramatic or complete as Sumela - and much more in the style of Cappadocia - ie - making use of the natural rock formations. Then it was time for an Onyx demonstration - apart from its natural beauty, Cappadocia is one of the worlds leading onyx centres. Dennis - I was tempted to buy one of their onyx chesssets but at close to €200 it was just a tad too pricey. Then one last panoramic viewpoint before back to Goreme where it started to rain again. F****** rain and as I type a bloke has just come in covered in snowflakes! Honestly Cappadocia is fantastic and Id come back in a heartbeat but Im fed up this drizzle and damp - it reminds me of Ireland.
So back to the hostel where İm just chilling in the common area and contemplating my next move over the next couple of days - could be time to move to another Cappoican town or maybe the coast is calling. The weather says its 20 degrees in Antalya!
Ok, ta ra,

5ft 9ins...you've grown since last I saw you then!!Not sure if it was a good idea to give ould TIPO two days off. Do you think you'll get it started again? Obviously you're still enjoying yourself and managing to track down the bargain accommadations. Agree with you totally about the snow. If it snowed at Christmas that would be more than enough for me. After nearly two years back home I have to say that you can't rate sunny weather highly enough. Am off to the UAE on THursday but will keep track of your shenanigans on Guy's computer.
Keep her rollin'.

Jinky O' Mahoney.
