Yo. Well as u can see Im in the central Anatolian town of Que Sera Sera - all we need are the green army of Irish soccer supporters to march down main st singing a few anthems - on the edge of Cappodica. Didnt quite make it to Goreme but TİPO did some sterling stuff today covering over 320km from 2 to 7pm. All together now - well done TİPO!
Yesterday I left Unye and after 45min at a bank, managed to convert a travellers cheque. Honestly ud think i was holding the bank to ransom. PS Dunx - u were dead right about the US 20 dollars monthly fee - itdve been well worth it in terms of convenience and tıme and effort saved. Pity u didnt advise me after I cancelled the card!!!! Nuff said.
Anyhow as İ left the bank I discoverd a rather startling piece of info which possibly goes someway to explain my lack of progress on the rds - my watch was an hour slow. I thought it was 10am when it was actually 11pm. İve no idea for how long id been operating on the wrong time zone - but some might say ı operate on a different planet so it makes no odds anyway!!
Anyhow I left Unye and had a really v scenic drive to ToeKat (Tokkat) through some marvellous scenery especially around the town of Nascar (Nıskar). Toekat is famous for its hammam so when in rome... That was hammam no. 3 on this trıp. Its main claim to fame is its multi domed with small eyelets in them to allow in light. I didnt get to Toekat till 830pm and after I had something to eat and finished with the hammam it was 11pm hence no update yesterday.
But this morning I had a chance to view Toekat in the daylight. Not bad. Its got another Konjai = restored period piece Ottoman house - which I visited - no 3 for me. I think im all kojaked out now. Plus a very nice mosque and the unusual hammam as above plus a Gok Medresse - old school of learning, which now doubles as the town museum. Left Toekat at 2pm and really put the foot down (Pat - no jibes - honestly Id have put Michael Schumaker to shame)to cover the 320 odd km to Kayseri during daylight. Almost managed it too with only the odd photo stop to delay me. I wonder if that might be another reason for my tardiness............
Anyway Kayseri is a big city - 650000 and to make matters worse the centrum is being ripped up for rd works so after 3 attempts to find the city centre I was v happy to locate a cheap hotel, park Tipo and explore on foot. Nice place.
Ok, gotta go , getting tired and an early start tommorow to hopefully reach Cappadocia proper - Goreme here I come!
Cheers, Wadirunner & TIPO.
