Yo, here I am in Al Khobar, one of the 'tree' cities that make up the greater Dammam area. This is my 2nd day in KSA. After spending 1.5 hours on the UAE side and 5 hours on the KSA side, I eventually hit the road yesterday. While waiting, it did cross my mind that I could have been watching the Mens Tennis in Dubai, Federrer & Nadal & co, and staying with my friends in Jumeirah - thanks Dave & June for putting up with me for the Womens - instead of sweating it out in a godforsaken border post....
Anyways, once I got going, the first stretch of road made the bleak Ruwais - Sila (UAE) landscape look positively enchanting. BTW, that is as boring as watching paint dry. I holed up at a services motel, and this morning went to Al Hofuf, which is supposed to be the world's largest oasis, but, trust the man with all the navigational intelligence of a retarted homing pigeon - I didn't even see a single tree! Instead I saw Qasr Ibrahim, an old ruined castle. Now, I'm in Al Khobar, by the sea. Just had a nice Italian meal and a walk along the corniche. Big drive ahead tommorow, inshallah. Ok, gotta go. Time's nearly up, hopefully I'll put photos up next time.
Cheers, Rob

Much as I'd really wish you to make it, I've got Dhs 100 at stake with the possibility of winning a thousand more if Tipo croaks somewhere in your next destination. So Rob, take care and hopefully the little red on four wheels finally meets its end sooooooon. Cheers!
