Today was departure day from Hamilton Island. After all the rain, I must admit it felt good to be moving on web though the forecast in Cairns isn't much better. Seems like we were very lucky getting out to the reef a couple of days ago - the tour is cancelled today and even the mini golf flooded.

The computer system at the hotel was down, but they still managed to invoice me for the last 6 days - bummer. And then it was a short, very short , 5 minute drive to the near deserted airport which actually was much bigger than expected. As you can see from the photos it has its own jetty to whisk people away to all the surrounding islands.

At security I discovered that I still had both sets of room keys in my pockets. These are the old fashioned metal types and not disposable plastic ones....

A helpful security guard said he'd drop them into the hotel box for later and a phone call to the hotel itself elicited a similar laid back response ' don't worry. Happens all the time -they'll make their way back '

The plane's just arrived. Will blog on later ...

Glad you made it to the Barrier Reef after all, if you are beneath the waves itt doesn't matter so much if it rains above them!
But I was amazed how stormy it was on the catamaran trip.Actually, I always thought you mainly feel sick when the boat rolls from side to side rather than when it pitches forwards and backwards. But can you imagine what the trip would have been like on the days they didn't run the boats because of the weather!
Here, the temperatures are only just picking up a bit. There was a picture in the paper of lorry loads of potted spring flowers being disposed of on refuse tips: due to the unseasonal weather garden centres couldn't sell them. That won't do much for our wobbly economy!
Have a good time.

G'day cobbers! Too easy mate. I've finally found the blog. :)

I see you're all getting some good times down under despite being hit by the end of the wet season at the top end. Hopefully, the next entry will reveal a drier alice springs and some famed ozzie light at uluru.

See if you can get some fishing in before you head back..lots of fun!
