Where I stayed
Eventually I had enough of the incarcerated existence and suggested that we go out in the rain 'because it can't be that bad compared to England '. And it wasnt - it was just a lot wetter.
So, as the first part of this adventure, it was out onto the beach at low tide with the blue resort umbrellas. Mary Poppins eat your heart out - I nearly got airborne
Marc and Rosa hovered under a marquee whilst Alex and I ploughed on out across the sand getting our shoes wet in the sand gullies.
And that's where the second great idea came to me. We'd go on a hike on the forest trail above the resort. Initially there was a sense of enthusiasm from the rest of the family, but as the trail got steeper and the rain just wouldn't relent, the sense of humour started to fail. 'My parents are psychos ' protested Marc as we pressed on. That only spurred Alex and myself to go faster. Luckily for him, as we reached the first fork in the path, there were markers indicating the distances still to walk up. As nothing was less than 1km,and we bumped into an Ozzie father and son who proclaimed that 'the rain hurts up on the headland' , we decided to head back. Marc's spirits improved at this news.
A warm bath followed for the boys and I lingered just that little bit longer in the hot shower.
Dinner, a buffet downstairs, in the Poolside restaurant was nothing much to write home about. That said, we did find ourselves having to control our calorie intake. I reckon with buffets that most people must eat at least double what they would usually consume. What with those heavy breakfasts, Rosa and I will be looking like the Michelin man by the end of the trip.
