A lesson that hasn't sunk in : Martin and beer just don't mix. As you'll have noticed in the blog yesterday, I had my first beer in a long while. The sun, the sea, the atmosphere all seemed right - just the beer wasn't. And this morning I felt sluggish, blocked and have been sneezing all day. Very slow to learn.

It was an earlier start today, waking up and thinking of London and then down for the calorie buster breakfast to keep us fuelled.

And from there, off we set, catching the 555 to Circular Quay (CQ). On the bus we met a couple who were staying at the same hotel and said they were going to start a 50 day cruise from here to Rome . That's a long time on a boat.

We were wondering where the cruise ships depart from, only to see the amazing sight of one moored up by the Sydney Bridge and another sailing under it. Up until that point the bridge hasn't seemed that tall.

From CQ we set off on the ferry to Manly. A wonderful journey with beautiful views across the bay especially when looking back to the Opera house and bridge.

Arriving at Manly, we spotted a beach adjacent to the terminal that had shark nets all around it. A quick google seemed to indicate that the last major attacks happened in 2009. Well, that's all right then!

Getting off the ferry we bought the boys some new sunglasses, a beach towel with 'Australia ' emblazoned across it and we hit the beach.

Yet again the waves were a big hit. I'll let the kids comments explain :

Marc 'the waves were more than 6ft tall! It was so cool . I kept getting washed back to the shore ! '

Alex:'I was hit by a wave and suddenly looked up to see another one that was so powerful that it knocked me over and I almost went under ! '

The lifeguards earned their keep by regularly broadcasting warning messages about the currents and 'blue bottles' in the water. We think that Alex might have got stung as his knees suddenly became very sore and bright red.

While we were there there were a few school classes having their combined PE and swimming lessons in the sea. Looked fun. Beats running around a muddy field in the cold.

So, after a late lunch of more fatty foods in the shape of a Wagu burger ( I promise to eat a little bit healthier over the next few days ) it was back on the ferry to central Sydney.

From there we jumped on a bus headed for Darling Harbour and discovered that Sydney also has a rush hour too and, surprise surprise, armies of Suits too.

Darling Harbour was fun for the boys as there was a lovely playground with a water park for them to mess around in and play around with pumping water and directing it down channels.

From there it was a short walk to china town where we stocked up on fruit for the healthier start for tomorrow when it will be goodbye to Sydney.

Sounding good, but disappointed you didn't climb the bridge like we did! Kiddies here missing your kiddies! Thanks for the Easter treats! Looking forward to next update!

Thanks for the update. So, the Australian beer got you .Not a nice experience; still better than if the sharks had got you! Those nets must be doing their job. But what about all the other beaches; do the sharks have n agreement with the Australian tourist board not to eat their customers? At least when we get your blogs we know that they haven't!
Love to all
PS : I hope this reaches you, I am not so sure what I am doing.
