I decided to go straight from cairns airport to Port Douglas rather than going into
Cairns. Driving around the coast all you see are beautiful cove beaches and
lush rain forest. This was definitely the place i wanted to be to chill out and
take it easy for a few days.

Port Douglas is full of lots of beautiful hotels and honeymooners...blah. As we
travelled in the bus dropping off people at these various hotels Alice and I
started to salivate at the hotels, knowing that we were heading for a down and
dirty hostel. It was not going to be on a par with any of these lovely hotels.
Never mind. The consolation prize is that I am on holiday for a much longer
time than any of these honeymooners!

The Great Barrier Reef. It is one of the natural wonders of the world. You have to see
it, so off i went for a day snorkeling trip to see what it was all about. The box fish jelly fish, although coming to the end of the session are still about so we had to wear lovely stinger suits.
Check out the pic. I was looking hot to trot! The water was lovely, 26 degrees.
Just right to be swimming around and checking out the fish.

I was lucky enough to see a turtle and a big ass groper. Lots of amazing fish of beautiful
colours, coral of neon blue, different shapes of coral – ones that looked like
brains, flat pancakes and noodles.  It was awesome to be able to swim on the great barrier reef. The visibility was incredible. Am afraid i was not willing to pay the price for the underwater
cameras so you will just have to take my word for it!

We were in luck with the weather, the sky was cloudless and the sun was shining all day
long. Thank god for factor 30 and stinger suit is all I can say!
