So I just took the most amazing motorcycle ride from fontem to dschang, two hours of mountain, forest and breathtaking views. i have six weeks left, and its so hard for me to really be here, i miss everything so much.

on the upside, i LOVE my patients. i feel so comfortable in the ward, and i now see that maybe, i wont make such a horrible doctor. maybe.

this week, i am learning the value of balls of courage. this week, i had a patient with end stage hiv. she turned comatose on the morning of my shift. she has been spiking a fever of 41.5, which is the equivalent of 106.7, which in lay mans terms, its like frying an egg on her forehead. i begged the dr to come see the patient, even though she had aids she deserved a chance like everyone else. looking at the diagnosis; he said just give her pcm. i choked, this woman will die. for a few days, i watched this woman boil alive. even when i pleaded with the doctor, his answer stayed the same. deep inside of me, i knew that i had to do something. inside of me, i thought either you get yelled at for giving this woman antibiotics and she lives, or she dies and you have to live with yourself. the balls of courage grew.

on a happy note, the woman immediately stopped having the fever, and now she is out of the coma.
