Death by glorified hot dog
Entry 4 of 16 | show all | print this entry |
I think I already shared some of my food experiences, but let me just add that I had the WORST experience two nights ago when I ate a glorified hot dog. Hot dogs are the one thing I seriously can't eat (even more so than non Swiss Farms milk) and my family wanted me to try just one bite of the "hot dog" because they insisted it was way better than anything in America. I'm sure they saw from the face I made while attempting to choke it down that I did not appreciate the mystery meat as they did. The taste was gross and the texture was horrible!!
Anyway, this week like all the others has flown by. I turned in my first essay on William the Conqueror today, and I have another essay due on Monday. The classes are really interesting, though, and I'm learning lots even though we don't have much work. Our history teacher talked about Napoleon today and he was comparing him to Hitler. Apparently Napoleon should be considered a tyrant but one that left good institutions (like a National Bank and the civil code) behind unlike Hitler who was just destructive.
Tomorrow I go to London with my French family to see a Shakespeare play. This was the daughter, Anne's, idea who is a HUGE fan of Shakespeare. She definitely likes to travel alot, and today she told us a funny story. She was in London this past week and brought her bicycle with her and parked it outside the hotel where she was staying. Well in the middle of the night, there was a fire alarm in the hotel and everyone had to evacuate...it turns out it was the front tire of her bicycle that caught on fire and made smoke go in through the hotel windows and set off the alarm. She said she was very embarassed to go to breakfast the next morning since the other people in the hotel weren't too happy...but looking back I think she sees the humor in it all.
Shani and I made reservations for Amsterdam next weekend, so that should be fun. I think the Eurail pass is going to end up saving us lots of money...but we still have to pay for our hostel rooms in the cities we visit.
Anyway, I'm gonna run but I hope things are going well for everyone. Talk to you later!
