I think today was the high and low point of the Botswana camping trip.
The low point was definitely the heat.  It was our hottest day so far (110 degrees) and we spent the day driving across Botswana (equivalent size to Texas or France) without air conditioning.  Several people felt dizzy or passed out, while most others just whined about how hot it felt in the LRs.  I think we were all pretty exhausted after 10 days of camping, and the thought of setting up camp again in the extreme heat was too much.  It was pretty tiring to pitch our tents that final time, but once we finished we got exciting news that we'd be eating dinner in a lodge instead of at camp (maybe the profs knew we were at our breaking point).  So we all drove to a nearby lodge right on the border of South Africa and Botswana.  It wasn't anything extravagant but it was relaxing.
Then came the high point, which was kind of bittersweet.  We had a "thank you" show for our guides with a song, poem and skit.  We've all grown so close to them so we wanted to say goodbye in a fun way.  The show was hilarious and I think they really enjoyed it.
Tomorrow we get to Joburg!  I must admit I'm excited to get clean and have comfy beds, although nothing can ever touch our experience here in "the bush."
