Hi all (Vicki here)

We woke up this morning to a cool grey wet sky, so we decided that another day at the beach was a waste. We lay on the beach for enough hours yesterday to feel a bit baked anyway. Bruce caused a bit of a drama last evening by swimming out further than anyone else and then floating on his back down the beach a bit, causing clusters of people to shade their eyes and point, and eventually the lifeguard actually swam out to Bruce to see if he was ok. It took so long for the lifeguard to reach Bruce that another guard followed him out in a zodiac-type inflatable boat.....Bruce was escorted back to shore and given a very laid back, friendly warning by the beach police.

This morning we were up early and headed down the road to Montevideo. Along the road there were lots of hawks and eagles etc, but I donīt know the names of any of them. There were also lots of flowering aloe plants - can you imagine a flower spike that towers as high as a maple tree, but with a very primitive waxy look..(sorry, this keyboard isnīt in spanish and I canīt find the question mark option....)

Montevideo is prettier than it looked from the bus station (isnīt every town) with art deco buildings that could rival Miami and some old art nouveau tiled balconies on the main shopping street (18 julio). Not much planned for today except walking around the old town and maybe some shopping if we get lucky. Itīs been slim pickings for shopping on this trip - nothing like Asia!

Itīs back to Buenos Aires tomorrow, and back to one more night at luxury hotel Callo (pronounced Kai-ow in spanish, unless youīre speaking Buenos Aires dialect, then itīs Kai-show. No wonder weīre having trouble with the language.....)

See you soon
love Vicki
