We spent yesterday walking around the leafy city and visiting the various parks. We bought executivo seats to B.Aires for 6pm tonight, arriving 8am tomorrow (full cama baby!) for a reasonable price, so we´re all set to go. After leaving the bus terminal, I discovered that all these trees I´ve been seeing around town, surrounded by small pink and black seeds are actually pepper trees. When you walk over the hot ground, you can smell the faint smell of black pepper...another first for me.
We tried to do some shopping, but the siesta is quite long here (from 1-5pm I think). We ended up sitting in a sidewalk cafe, eating another unbelievably cheap meal and watching the world go by
We wandered over to Plaza Espagna where there were some beautiful, cool tiled benches and some hideous murals depicting the history of the Spanish in Mendoza. We were driven off by two American DUDES playing hackysack and pushing each other into the fountain, getting in the way of the ubiquitous custodians who constantly sweep the streets clean with palm fronds. Spent the rest of the afternoon reading and dozing in Plaza Armas, watching the guys play football and the teenagers molest each other - with excess affection. Argentinians are practicing for the Olympic Makeout Marathon - and they'll probably take the gold.
After a siesta at the hotel, we ventured out for a nice dinner at 10pm. Unfortunately, the Italian resto that had been recommended was boarded up, so we walked back to our neighbourhood, bought some little things at the night market and ended up at a steak house next to our hotel. OK, get this: we had set menus including beer and snacks (chips and peanuts), then bread, then a cold plate of three appetizers, then salad, then principal plates, then dessert
We fell into bed after midnight with huge Lomo bellies and declined breakfast for the next morning.
See you all soon,
ps. You guys have to come to Argentina!
