We were not all that looking forward to getting into another of Indias big cities. Jaipur, "the pink city" is Rajasthans capital city. We were jolly happy to arrive after our "direct" bus was about 2 hours late after stopping twice on the way so we didnt arrive till pretty late. The streets were dark and poorly lit so the rubbish and mess was out of sight. We didnt see too many animals wandering, were not hassled by too many touts or rickshaw drivers. The only thing I was not too comfortable about was walking past the streets lined with homeless people including kids trying to sleep in the cold.
We stayed at a very nice guesthouse called the Hotel Pearl Palace and had only 2 days here to explore and of corse squeeze in some last minute shopping. Jaipur was also rumored to be the place to "shop till you drop"!
We somehow got our arm twisted by a rickshaw driver to letting him take us on a day tour of Jaipur including yet another fort. Feeling a bit forted out we agreed anyway. Jaipur in the sunlight was acutally not bad! Polluted, of corse but not as dirty and rubbish filled as we were expecting.
