DELHI - I thought all the stories I had heard and all the pictures I had seen would prepare me for Delhi but this place has to be seen to be believed! It is disgusting, horrible, heinous, revoulting...
Up until now I thought Kathmandu was the most polluted, overcrowded, dirty place ever but Delhi is waaaaayyyyy waaaaayyyyy more polluted, overcrowded and dirty. Rubbish everywhere, cows everywhere, people everywhere - eating food from the gutter, peeing everywhere, selling junk everywhere, shouting, spitting honking horns, annoying the tourists, being rude to tourists - way way too much to handle but maybe thats what you get when you have 12.8 million people living in once city? We stayed in the tourist backpacking are of Panarganj which was the worst backpacking area I have stayed in. Just aweful!
We only had just over 24 hours to fill in before our train out of there. The only touristy thing we did was visit the Red Fort which was ok. Far more impressive from the outside gate than inside.
The highlight of Delhi was seeing the new Harry Potter movie which opened worldwide the day we arrived.
A little afraid of the "Delhi Belly" Dan managed to get me to eat a meal of McDs - the chicken big mac - not too bad really but a little processed and quite spicy too.
Next stop is Jaisalmer over by the Pakastan boarder in Rajastan. A long long 20 hour train ride from Delhi.
