The time has come and I am back in Bangkok. 3/4s of the way through my time travelling in SE Asia. I was actually quite excited about heading back into Thailand and getting back into the Thai food. Dan and I had 1 day spare before Bill and Ruth, Dans parents flew in to meet us for the following 12 days. Checked into the Four Sons guesthouse for a night on Soi Rambutri, close to Koh Sahn Rd and we actually had a pretty full on day. Dan needed immunisations and we needed to organise our flights to Nepal and do the odd other things plus check into our flash accomodation at the Grand China Princess Hotel in China Town. This place was amazing after backpacker guesthouses for the past 6 weeks! A huge 4 star hotel and we had a giant room (about 3 times the size of our house in Japan!) on the 20th floor and also a pool on the roof!
It was great to see Bill and Ruth arrived safely late that night so only time for a wee catch up then.
Unfortunatly the weather was a bit rainy the first day or 2 but it didnt hold up our sightseeing plans too much. We saw the Grand Palace, Reclining buddha and also made it over to the Temple of the Dawn this time.
We also took a dinner river cruise one night which was awesome, they had Thai traditional dancing and so much food. They didnt bring out the big seafood basket that was stuffed with king prawns, squid, mussels etc till last which was a shame as we couldnt finish it all. Horrible to see that good seafood go to waste.
Our first ride on the tuk tuk - we managed to get all 4 of us into 1 tuktuk with some negoating with the driver. We wanted to go to a cheap thai restaurant and as usual he insisted on taking us to his "friends" "cheap" restaurant which as it turned out, was one of the more expensive seafood restaurants in Bangkok. Suckered in once again by those tuktuk drivers. It was a very good Thai seafood meal and the tuktuk was cheap cheap.
We were lucky enough to time our visit over a weekend day so spent the Saturday morning out at the Weekend Markets. These are just as good as I remember them from xmas time. I was very well controlled (I needed to be as my pack(s)are verging on uncarryable!)and only picked up 2 nice wee vneck singlets for about $2NZ each and I was very spoilt and Ruth bought me a cool wrap around Thai print skirt. Surely those 3 things could fit into my pack?
Anyway, Bangkok was as good this time round as it was the first - madness in every direction but fun to be amongst. Looking forward to getting down to Koh Samui for 8 days of sun, swimming and cocktails : )
